It is my great pleasure, as the Chairman of the Organising
Committee, to announce that the 31st South
African
The theme of this year’s congress is the fascinating
“Sustainable Safe Blood: Mastering Change”. The
Scientific Committee is compiling a comprehensive
programme in which national and international experts in the
field of Blood Transfusion will address the challenges
facing South Africa in particular, and the region in
general. The scientific sessions will focus on blood
procurement, maintaining safety of the blood supply,
challenges facing developing countries and additional
topics of regional interest. This congress will provide a
platform for delegates to showcase their achievements,
acquire vital information on scientific developments, to
make new friends and to renew valuable old acquaintances.
The Organising Committee is also planning an entertaining,
fun-filled social programme for the evenings, giving
delegates the opportunity to mingle and party in true South
African style.
As a committee, we cordially invite you to attend this
beneficial congress and enjoy the scientific and social
programme that has been planned. These four days will
provide you and your colleagues with a fantastic opportunity
to participate in the various scientific sessions and to
network among the delegates.

Blood Transfusion Congress will be held from 15 to 18
November 2009 at the Birchwood Hotel and OR Tambo Conference
Centre in Gauteng, located just a few kilometers away
from the O.R. Tambo International Airport.
